ARE YOU a Clever BUYER or a money wasting SHOPPER?

a RED DOOR money saving page
Are you a BUYER or SHOPPER

Some people seem to be better than others at making their money go a lot further than others. Our research of spending habits reveals that it is helpful to place people into one of two categories. People can be divided into Shoppers or Buyers, most are expert Shoppers few are expert Buyers. Buyers will usually obtain much better value for money than Shoppers. Which category are you in, what are the differences and why does it matter? Try our FREE Spending test below to find out.
+ SHOPPERS are people who make their buying decisions based on their emotions and feelings. For example, they will choose a product because they like the sales person. Sellers' love people who let their feelings dominate their decisions because they are much easier to manipulate. Shoppers make SUBJECTIVE ill-considered decisions and often waste their money.
+ BUYERS are people who spend wisely and make their buying decisions based on facts not feelings or emotions. They are not impulsive and will carefully weigh all the alternatives before deciding. Buyers will cross check what a sales person tells them and make their decisions based on the facts and qualities that can be measured and compared. Buyers make OBJECTIVE, considered decisions and usually make the most of their money.
Obviously when making large spend buying decisions, it is advantageous to to operate in BUYER mode. However it is quite OK to behave as SHOPPERS sometimes - for instance we are all influenced to some extent by culture, fashion and advertising. The trick is to realise when we are indulging our SHOPPING weaknesses and keep them well in check - especially on big spend items.
+ HOW WE CAN HELP Professional buyers receive a great deal of training to constantly remain focused and objective, always making their decisions on the facts and figures NOT their feelings and emotions. This buying skills site aims to share with you the techniques that the professionals use to obtain the best possible value for the least possible cost. We will show you their jargon, research methods, operating systems, negotiating tips, legal awareness and success measuring.

"Using buying skills turns poor Shoppers into rich Buyers"

For Career Buyers and Procurement Managers
If you are a professional buyer you probably like the Buyer/Shopper analogy; finding yourself surrounded by internal customers that drive you mad because they think that they are clever buyers when in fact they are just amateur shoppers. My book explores the subject further and provides practical solutions to stop amateur rogue buying. Buying Skills also provide professional Purchasing training courses for career buyers & procurement managers. For example on our "New to buying training course" we introduce the Buyer/Shopper concept in our introduction in order to wet the candidates appetite for adopting a more professional objective approach. Reviews
'The practical advice provided throughout this book is presented in a no-frills, snappy style that ensures the essential information is not lost in a clutter of unnecessary detail. ...This is an excellent volume that in every sense is a handbook for procurement specialists and beginners alike.' Economic Outlook and Business Review (Dec 06)

'An ideal guide for any buyer that aspires to be a procurement manager. It goes beyond the mere process manual and explains purchasing’s role at the heart of a successful organisation. I particularly approve of the way that Roylance stressed the need for purchasing to act as an example of good practice in business ethics. It distills a lifetime of experience in purchasing into an easily digestible read full of wisdom.'
Trevor Kitching, Director, ACS Supply Chain Consultancy Ltd

'Written in Roylance's humorously dictatorial style, the book condenses a year's worth of instruction into one handy volume. It covers everything you need to know and consider when engaging your internal customers on procurement's offer to your company. ...Well done.' Supply Management (CIPS Members magazine)'.
