Car Clubs

Car Clubs - General For some people selling their car and replacing it with a judicious mixture of using Car Clubs, Car Hire and Taxis is the way to save a fortune. As well as saving money it also has the advantage of drastically reducing global footprint. From small beginnings Car Club membership is growing fast - predicted to be around half a million by 2012. It is said that each Car Club car replaces seven privately owned cars and members cut down on unnecessary journeys by 35%.
Car Clubs - How they work The Club owns a number of cars that are parked at known pick up and drop off points in the area the Club operates.Car Club Members book a car either online or over the phone and depending on availability it can be more or less instant. A smart card is used to remotely unlock the car and off they go.They claim that typically there will be a pick up point within three minutes of home. At the end of the journey the car is returned to recognised drop off point. A travel log is automatically sent to the Club HQ for billing to take place.
Car Club - Costs There is an annual Club membership fee. Then there is a hourly rate fee that may vary depending on time of the day or week and length of hire. The mileage fee covers everything like insurance, maintenance, road tax etc. The only extra is fuel, most Clubs give around 50 free miles per day after that it is charged at a per mile rate. Should you need fuel there will be a fuel card in the car. Costs are billed monthly.
Car Club - Suitability The most obvious requirement is that you need a Car Club operation in your area. To find out go to CAR CLUBS Generally they will suit light car use people living in cities or large towns. People with an interest in the environment who are willing to plan their journeys, make the most of public transport and who also cycle or walk.
Car Club - Eligibility You will need to possess a good driving record, be over 19 and be prepared to follow Club rules.
Car Club - Advantages The hassle of owning a car is removed. It can also be much cheaper. It is claimed that a motorist using their own Ford Fiesta to drive 4,000 miles a year would cost all in around £2,200. Using a car from a Car Club would be about £980 cheaper.
Car Club - Disadvantages You may find that a car is not available at the time you require it. So you will need to carefully plan journeys and book ahead and if you change your mind there is no refund. There may not be a pick up point near your house. No child car seats are supplied and pets are not allowed.

SORRY but we do not have the resources at the moment to advise on individual Car Club queries.
